Ribbed Baby HatA hat is always a great quick gift for a new baby. Here is a simple ribbed hat that uses 50g of any DK or worsted weight yarn you have around. I used one skein of Classic AL. I even had enough left over to make a pompom. Gauge: 4 sts/ 1” in ribbing, slightly stretched. Needles: #7 16” circular, set of #7 dpns. Cast on 60 sts. Work in K2, P2 rib until hat measures 8”. Decrease for the crown as follows: Row 1: *K2, P2, K2, P2tog*, repeat until 4sts rem, K2, P2 Row 2: *K2, P2, K2, P1*, repeat until 4sts rem, K2 P2 Row 3: *K2, P2tog, K2, P1*, until 4sts rem, K2 Ptog Row 4: * K2, P1, K2, P1*, until 3sts rem, K2 P1 Row 5: * K2, P1, K2tog, P1*, until 3sts rem, K2 P1 Row 6: * K2, P1, K1, P1*, until 3sts rem, K2 P1 Row 7: * K2, P1, K1, P1*, until 3sts rem, K2 P1 Row 8: * K2tog, P1, K1, P1*, until 3sts rem, K2tog P1 Row 9: * K1, P1, * around Row 10: * SSK, P2tog* around Row 11: * K2tog* around Break the yarn and slip it through the remaining stitches. Sew in ends. Optional pompom: I made the pompom by wrapping the remaining yarn around three fingers until it was almost gone, tying it tightly across the center and trimming it into a ball.
